THE UNPARDONABLE SIN(S)

Let us get right to the heart of the subject unbelief is a sin and unbelief could very well be the only unpardonable sin but unforgiveness ranks just as high so I don’t want to split hairs on which one is worst. They both are not overlooked according to the Word of God. So let us now examine some scriptures to prove this point.

Unbelief

Hebrews 11:6
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. KJV
John 16:8-9
8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
9 Of sin, because they believe not on me; KJV

It is required in Christianity that we believe on Jesus Christ as the Savior of the World. Some believe the unpardonable sin is unbelief, or simply put not believing on Him for your personal salvation. I agree with the doctrine of no automatic pardon when you have an opportunity to believe on Jesus Christ and the message of salvation and choose not to. Simply put you choose to reject Jesus Christ as Savior over accepting Him with His message of Love and forgiveness. Speaking of forgiveness let us look at the topic of unforgiveness also.

Unforgiveness

Matthew 6:14-15
14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. KJV
Mark 11:25-26
25 And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.
26 But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses. KJV
Luke 6:37
Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven: KJV
Matthew 18:32-35
32 Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me:
33 Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee?
34 And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.
35 So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses. KJV

Some in Christianity believe that the unpardonable sin is unforgiveness. This also is valid based on the scriptures presented above. We know no true Christian can sincerely receive the forgiveness offered by the Blood of Jesus and with God’s Holy Spirit present within them and refuse to offer the Blood of Jesus to another in need. All those who are unwilling to offer forgiveness to another are unwilling to offer Jesus to another person on this earth. This also is unacceptable in Christ Jesus.

I firmly believe based on the scriptures that either one of these (or both acted on independently) could be the unpardonable sin because in both cases the man/woman who chooses to let this sin be a stronghold in their life are accepting condemnation. They understand that they choose not to follow Jesus, the Savior of the World, thus sealing their doom.

Blasphemy

Many bible teachers and preachers conclude that blasphemy against the Holy Ghost is the unpardonable sin. I do not share their position on that doctrine simply because upon close examination of the scriptures concerning blasphemy warnings are issued, but eternal judgment is not. However wrong blasphemy may be I have not found a biblical example of that sin alone sending some to hell. Blasphemy only puts you in danger of eternal judgement but can not be the unpardonable sin simply because blasphemy against the Holy Ghost is not higher than the Name of Jesus and Jesus (God Himself) issued only a warning of danger to those Jews who chose to blaspheme.

Mark 3:28-29
28 Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme:
29 But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation: KJV

Blasphemy against the Holy Ghost was only spoken to the unbelieving Jews, in a concentrated effort to directly attack God’s Plan, personally discredit God’s Son, and destroy the ministry of the Name of Jesus by destroying the living person, Jesus Christ. This is not a one time offense or else the term “is in danger of eternal damnation” would not of been used, but rather those who choose to practice this horrific sin are definitely in danger of eternal damnation. This means that they are on the path of destruction and if they continue on this path of darkness, by persisting in this grotesque sin they will fall head first into hell to face God’s eternal judgment. Typically, those who choose to hate the Holy things and people of God are prime candidates to perform acts of blasphemy. Those with the Holy Spirit will know when they grieve His Presence by their conscience which will keep them from a habit of gross error and perpetual sin. Refer to 1 Timothy 4:1-2

1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; KJV

Having a sheared conscience is never instantaneously but rather a process of rejection of God’s promptings for an extended length of time. Becoming hard hearted is not an accident but rather a by-product of those know right but refuse to follow the Holy Spirit of God with a clear conscience.

An example of Christian blasphemy is found in

1 Timothy 1:19-20
19 Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck:
20 Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme. KJV

Notice that they were still given the opportunity to learn a lesson, thus grace and mercy were still granted them so that their souls could be saved from eternal damnation.

Acts 26:10-11
10 Which thing I also did in Jerusalem: and many of the saints did I shut up in prison, having received authority from the chief priests; and when they were put to death, I gave my voice against them.
11 And I punished them oft in every synagogue, and compelled them to blaspheme; and being exceedingly mad against them, I persecuted them even unto strange cities. KJV

Notice even our beloved Apostle Paul received grace and forgiveness after engaging in blasphemy and compelling others to blaspheme. Paul could of never compelled others unless he knew exactly what blaspheme is and what it sounded like. And yet with all that previous activity against God and God’s people the Apostle Paul became a preacher who is used mightily of God. If Paul would have been guilty of the unpardonable sin, he would not have received a pardon from the Lord Jesus Christ and Father God. This shows us that when blasphemy is present there is still hope for salvation to the blasphemer.

James 2:6-7
6 But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?
7 Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called? KJV

Many religious people have and still continue to blaspheme the Name of Jesus but yet the Power of the Blood and the Name of Jesus is still more than enough to save those sinners from the fate of Hell when they call upon His Name with a repentant heart.

Revelation 13:4-7
4 And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?
5 And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months.
6 And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.
7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. KJV

Notice in these verses the people that committed blasphemy knew what they were doing and truly hated God and refused the Name of Jesus, especially as the Savoir of the World. There are some people in the world who used to walk with God, but they chose to change their allegiance. Some people have actually partaken of God's Nature and God's Ways and chose to walk away from God all together. However those that do this as a lifestyle know exactly what they are doing and want to be ungodly. They simply prefer evil over good.

John 3:19-20
19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. KJV

And

Hebrews 6:4-6
4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. KJV

Notice that those people referred to in the verses above were evil by choice, not accident, they were not even thinking about the "unpardonable sin". They chose to be sinners, they are doing and speaking exactly what they believe and desire. If you are simple minded enough to believe that all people really are good at heart, not evil, then you are in opposition of the Holy Bible. There are evil, mean, and bad people out in the world today. However, we (as Christians) do not focus on their deeds and words. We choose to preach the love of Christ Jesus to all people, all over this earth, no matter what their attitude or behavior. Although, we must still realize that some people will not accept our proposal (offer) to believe on Jesus Christ for their eternal salvation. All those who choose to reject Jesus as their personal Savoir are not in right standing with God, even those who once believed on Jesus before. Therefore how can someone who refuses to believe on Christ Jesus as their personal Lord and Savoir be saved? They can not, simply because they don't believe on Jesus as their Savior. If a person is so haughty that they think (believe) that they don't need a Savoir, they also believe you don't either. These people are unbelievers to their core which still keeps unbelief on the Lord Jesus Christ at the top of my list, making it receive the title, “The Unpardonable Sin”.

Following in a close second would be unforgiveness but I would recommend to every person in the whole wide world, “Never, yes never, practice any of those three sins”. Always be quick to forgive others and yourself, be constant to believe on the Saving Blood of Jesus Christ and His Gospel and doing those two is probably enough to keep you from ever committing the third sin of blasphemy. Amen!

Wisdom dictates that we should know about these ungodly practices but don’t over indulge ourselves in them. I would recommend spending only enough time studying this subject to understand the topic in it’s context. Much extra time spent after that is probably of no real value. Remember Romans 16:19

For your obedience is come abroad unto all men. I am glad therefore on your behalf: but yet I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil. KJV
